"Spring Leads To Summer"

“Spring Leads To Summer”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. $750.00 USD

Spring rain and warm weather have brought the dune grasses back to a vibrant green. Lounging on the beach and playing in the surf are closer than you think…

"Forest Fog"

“Forest Fog”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. $750.00 USD

At a new location (for me), I followed a path which wandered through a swamp and over a small stream or two. Then this clearing appeared on slightly higher, dryer ground. Emerging from the closeness of the swampy shrubbery walls of the trail to the openness of this space, made me appreciate the larger view this afforded. The tree trunks were like umbrella poles with their developing canopies overhead. A fog lingered at the edge of view, maintaining a surreal quality to the place as a stonewall laced along the back…

"Beach Cabanas"

“Beach Cabanas”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. $750.00 USD

A pleasant day of location scouting lead me to the cabanas near sunset. Since last painting here, earth moving equipment had been building up the beach and dunes for a few years. The seas and winds had removed the sand as the tide line crept up to the decks of the bathing houses, threatening to carry them away. A multi-million dollar effort of moving dredging spoils from a nearby channel widening project replenished beach and dunes. However, the way nature moves sand in and out and away, I don’t expect this area to remain flush for long…

"Crackatuxet"

“Crackatuxet”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

A favorite corner of South Beach. I especially love this collection of last century buildings. This is what the Vineyard will always be to me, small scale, happy, close to the land and ocean. Of course, my vision is incomplete without summer, too, but off season has its own pleasures…

"Skiff"

“Skiff”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. $750.00 USD

A beautiful warm day found me driving out to the beach. This pond skiff was just waiting for me when I got there…

"Atlantic Drive"

“Atlantic Drive”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

Locating this bridge over the Herring Creek, I found the best vantage point and began work. It was a cheery place to paint. A breeze crept in at dusk and the day ended on a raw note. I was cold to the bone even though I had on my winter jacket and hood. I turned the heat way up as I drove back toward town…

"Black Point Beach Path"

“Black Point Beach Path”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. $750.00 USD

I loved the light and color on this tractor path from the barn to the fields near Black Point Beach. I found there were deer, raccoon and bird tracks in and around the mud puddles. I half expected a skunk to walk by while I painted. As I packed to walk back to the parking area, I found the first deer tick of the season crawling up my pants. Oh, no. Winter has been so mild that I’m not sure the ticks even tried to hibernate from the cold. I will have to check myself now every time I go out…

"January Dune"

“January Dune”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

Rain poured on and off all day. I caught this view while painting from my van between storms, from behind the dunes at South Beach. The rain intensified the colors of the dried grass and the leafless branches of the rosa rugosa. The dark storm clouds added to the drama of the day…

"Pond Path"

“Pond Path”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

I scouted this spot weeks ago, but hadn’t found a good and sunny day to come back until now. This is along the edge of a finger of Tisbury Great Pond at Sepiessa in West Tisbury…

"Cranberry Bog"

“Cranberry Bog”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

I painted here in late afternoon light over two years ago. Driving by the other day, I couldn’t resist creating it again in morning light with the tree shadows rippling across the drive…
