I WORK EN PLEIN AIR, OUT IN THE COUNTRYSIDE… Welcome. I am back to painting again after a sabbatical that included a few pieces done for charitable fund raisers. I am continuing to make small, 6" x 8", landscape oils, but not every day. I am also working on larger pieces. Every time I finish a painting, I will place it here on my website. I had to come back to the farm. These pigs were just too exciting not to paint, especially against the old red of the barn. However, I received the cold shoulder this time. They were fed earlier and just couldn’t care less about anything else right now. If I had the remains of a fine catered event to munch on, I probably could care less, too!…

This is one of my favorite older barns. It is still standing in good shape, not made of corrugated metal, has that barn red doors and trim and matching shingles. An added surprise was finding 2 large pigs living in and around the building. I quickly made new friends. As the painting progressed, they came back from a leisurely acorn jaunt in the woods. They wallowed in the muddy swamp right behind me to better observe my painting technique…

Some fishermens’ shacks are shuttered for the season. Lobstermen begin to pull traps for the fall. Striped bass and bluefish are migrating past as the waters cool from summer’s heat…

It was raining when I started out, but stopped when I arrived at the western end of the island. I walked up to the lookout point, set up and started to paint. The breeze was light, but from the direction of the swamps below. The mosquito cloud built around me. I double shirted myself and continued on until dusk. I packed up in haste and raced off to my vehicle. As I climbed in, the heavens let loose and it poured. Still, I would call it a good day…

I was not scouting for a particular view when I started out today. In my van by this beach path watching terns dive for their dinner, I wondered if the fishing would be good. Opening the tail gate to grab my fishing rod, I got my paints out instead. As I began painting, every 15 or 20 minutes another sailboat would come through the passage between the far islands and pose for me…
