I WORK EN PLEIN AIR, OUT IN THE COUNTRYSIDE… Welcome. I am back to painting again after a sabbatical that included a few pieces done for charitable fund raisers. I am continuing to make small, 6" x 8", landscape oils, but not every day. I am also working on larger pieces. Every time I finish a painting, I will place it here on my website. Continuing with my daffodil obsession, I found this orange cup by a neighbor’s stonewall. I couldn’t paint it where it was or I would have been found run over by the side of the road. So I cut and brought it home to paint outside on the east porch (in a vase) with this actual wall and view behind it. Plein air, sort of, alla prima for sure…

On rainy days I enjoy setting up still lifes to paint. Figs can be a challenge because of their dark color, but cut open they offer a different story. I really wanted to eat this, but had to wait until I had finished. It was good!…

The day lilies are out in full force right now. Some flower beds are impossibly alive with many different varieties and riots of color. The best part for the painter is that a lot of the flowering is right in your face at eye level. No leaning over or sitting down to capture the best view…

I love roses, but it is always good to remember that they come with thorns. As much as I may want to hold them, smell them and even cut them to make them mine, I must be mindful of the prick they may give. I find that even snagged by a thorn, they are always worth the effort….
